Investigations began after a hired Volkswagen Tiguan, reported stolen on October 17, was located at a Bryven Court, Morayfield address on October 21, where the car was recovered. Prior to police arrival, a man allegedly left the property on a Yamaha YZF-R1 motorbike, which police say he drove dangerously and at high speed through Morayfield and onto the Bruce Highway.

Police intercepted and arrested the man at a shopping centre on Morayfield Road, Morayfield. A search of the area found property allegedly dumped by the man before his arrest, including a disassembled shortened shotgun, an airsoft handgun with an attached magazine, shotgun ammunition, approximately 1g of methylamphetamine, approximately 0.5g of cocaine, approximately 6.5g of cannabis, approximately 75ml of 1,4-butanediol, drug utensils, and cash.

A 34-year-old Scarborough man has been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of: unlawful possession of a firearm – short firearm in public, unlawful possession of firearm, unlawful possession of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving a motor vehicle without a driver licence, obstructing police, authority required to possess explosives, possessing relevant substance, possession of property suspected of being used in connection with a drug offence, possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act, using an unregistered vehicle, and driving an uninsured vehicle.

He was refused police bail and appeared in Caboolture Magistrates Court on October 22.

Detective Inspector David Harbison said police remain dedicated to removing firearms from the streets.

“This investigation and arrest has resulted in two fewer firearms in our community,” Detective Inspector Harbison said. “Moreton district partners with the rest of the state under Operation Whiskey Firestorm, focused on investigation, prevention, and disruption activities involving illicit firearms offences and violent firearm-related offending. Under this coordinated and targeted response, we will continue working to reduce firearm-related crime and remove harmful and illegal weapons from the community.”
