Local GP leads fi ght against melanoma

EVERY five hours, one Australian loses their life to melanoma — a statistic that Dr Aaron Lewis is determined to change.

The long-time local GP has recently joined On Point Skin Cancer Clinic, which has just opened a new location in Morayfield, designed to make early detection and treatment more accessible to the community.

“Melanoma is one of the most preventable cancers if caught early,” Dr Lewis said. “We know that 94 per cent of cases can be successfully treated when detected early, which is why education and regular check-ups are so important. Early intervention really can be a lifesaver.”

The newly opened Morayfield clinic offers a full range of skin care services under one roof — from routine checks and diagnostics through to advanced treatments and minor surgeries. The aim, Dr Lewis explained, is to create a seamless experience for patients.

“We want to offer a one-stop-shop for skin care, from diagnostics to various treatments, all under one roof,” he said. “The goal is to have one place to manage your whole skincare journey, with continuity of doctors and support staff.”

Accessibility and affordability are at the heart of the new clinic’s mission. Dr Lewis said financial concerns should never prevent people from getting their skin checked.

“Finance shouldn’t be a barrier for these essential health services, which is why we bulk bill concession card holders, including pensioners and under 18s,” he said.

Dr Lewis’s passion for community healthcare runs deep. Raised in Woodford, he attended Woodford Primary School and Kilcoy High School before studying medicine at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. After graduating, he spent several years in rural practice in Kingaroy, where he developed a strong interest in dermatology and skin cancer management.

Outside of medicine, Aaron spends time with his wife Sara and son Ethan, as well as their family dogs Toby and Daisy.

“I want to give something back to the community where I grew up,” Dr Lewis said. “Opening a dedicated skin cancer clinic here feels like a natural way to do that.”

From skin checks and surgical procedures to ongoing management, the modern clinic is equipped with the latest technology and a highly trained team committed to providing professional, affordable, and compassionate care.

As Dr Lewis puts it, “It’s all about giving people confidence in their health and the peace of mind that comes from knowing they’re in good hands.”
