National exhibit opens in Toogoolawah
The national regional tour of ‘Primavera: Young Australian Artists’ is launching at The Condensery and will be displayed from July 13 to September 1.
Curator and artist talks will take place at The Condensery from 2pm to 4pm on July 13, as they launch the national tour.
Developed by the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA Australia) and touring in partnership with Museums & Galleries of NSW (M&G NSW), the exhibition showcases the work of Australian artists aged 35 years and under.
The Primavera touring exhibition is guest curated by Talia Smith and features Primavera 2023 artists Tiyan Baker, Christopher Bassi, Moorina Bonini, Nikki Lam, Sarah Poulgrain and Truc Truong, working across video, painting, sculpture, installation and text.
The exhibition considers themes of protest, perseverance, identity and history.
Now in its 32nd year, Primavera showcases the work of Australian artists at early stages in their career.
Somerset Regional Council Deputy Mayor Helen Brieschke said it was exciting to bring this exhibition to council’s gallery in Toogoolawah.
“I encourage residents and visitors alike to join us for curator and artists talks at The Condensery on Saturday, 13 July from 2pm to 4pm,” Cr Brieschke said.
Opening concurrently is ‘Light Hearted’, an exhibition in The Condensery’s bomb shelter which showcases the work of young photographers living in the Somerset region.
Artists include Myah Butterfield, Gracie-Dawn Lewis, Petrina Lewis and Lucy Oakroot.
Over term 2 2024, these young photographers have participated in The Condensery’s After School Photo Club.
The event will be catered with locally sourced food and wine, courtesy of Picnic Society and Woongooroo Estate Winery.
