Pausing to remember the fallen
A gathering of people converged at the National Police Remembrance Day service at the Burpengary-based St. Eugene College last Friday.
Local representatives from all levels of government, and representatives from the Queensland Police Service (QPS), Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and Caboolture RSL sub branch were in attendance.
Police and Corrective Services Minister, Mark Ryan, attended the service at St. Eugene College after earlier attending the march and memorial service which took place at the QPS Memorial at the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens.
Families and friends of the fallen also attended as the annual event provided the chance to pause, honour and remember police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
In line with other National Police Remembrance Day events in Queensland, the service at St. Eugene College included commemorating the late Constables Matthew Arnold, Rachel McCrow and Anthony Woods.
The Burpengary-based service also involved reference to Perry Irwin who died 20 years ago, and it was also noted that this year marked 70 years since the passing of Constable Michael Howard of Kilcoy Police Station.
Following the service, attendees at St. Eugene College hung around for afternoon tea which consisted of sandwiches, cupcakes and coffee.
