Silver style in full bloom
MORAYFIELD Shopping Centre celebrated its Over 55s & Seniors Club with a dazzling Spring Fashion Parade and morning tea on October 10, bringing together 100 enthusiastic members for a day dedicated to style, community, and fun.
The inaugural event, which was open to the first 100 RSVPs from the Club’s 1,500 senior members, took place in the centre’s food court and proved to be a resounding success, drawing many curious bystanders’ eyes.
Ten local seniors took to the runway to model the latest spring fashions from 15 stores within the centre, showcasing looks that resonated with the vibrant and active community.
The parade was more than a display of fashion, also serving as a heartfelt gesture to thank and reward the centre’s most loyal shoppers, as well as show older locals you can keep having fun in life.
Morayfield Shopping Centre event organiser, Kellie Creed, said the parade was “a wonderful way to bring seniors together as part of a community and thank them for their continued support.”
Ms Creed highlighted how important it was for the centre to recognise its senior community.
“It’s all about community. It’s all about celebrating their loyalty and supporting our retailers by showcasing what they have to offer,” she said.
“These people are so full of life and are always looking for social events. We’re just providing that opportunity for them – a chance to support friends on stage, enjoy some fun, and try something different for spring, be it a new store they wouldn’t normally enter or a new fashion piece they wouldn’t usually consider.”
Judy Moller, one of the parade’s models and a long-time member and customer, said she loved doing the parade, adding it was something different from what the centre has done before.
“It encouraged people to go in and try different stores and styles and show everyone that even the trendy stores are not only for young people,” she said.
“It’s also for the older people, and the accessories were just amazing. It’s an encouragement for the age group to get out and do more things.”
She described how being on the runway made her feel “fantastic” and encouraged older residents to do things that make them feel beautiful and confident.
Featured models included Judy Moller, Heather Toye, Ernie, Pauline, Karey, Graeme, Glenda, Vicki, Gloria and Karen, with participating stores including Just Jeans, The Stable Door, Target, Suzanne Grae, Connor, Sportsgirl, Catalog, Big W, Lowes, Ghanda, Best and Less, Skechers shoes, Platypus shoes, Williams shoes, and Spendless shoes.
